Movies like Dear Zindagi don’t come along often, and if they do come along, they’re rarely right on time.

While ILD showed me that it's alright to wallow in your own self-pity and loneliness, Dear Zindagi showed me what could come after the wallowing and taught me that there's no shame in admitting there’s something wrong and seeking help. In some ways, Dear Zindagi is like its antithesis. The only other film I remember resonating with me on such a deep level was Inside Llewyn Davis. I needed Kaira's success and her newfound love for life. I needed to see how rewarding the journey to changing your life could be. So much of her experience resonated with me and watching Dear Zindagi was almost like therapy. The fears that held her back, the sleepless nights, the repressed memories that suddenly came back to the surface – I've been there. I'm an aspiring writer of sorts and it was the never-ending months of isolation that made issues I'd long buried deep resurface, but I've felt many of the feelings she felt. I'm not a cinematographer nor was it a break-up that caused my life to spiral. My experience is quite different from Kaira's. I feel like it's perfectly tailored to me and to the stage in my life that I'm currently going through. I find it very difficult to write a proper review of Dear Zindagi because of how personal it feels.
